asked the Minister for Lands the position regarding the Coolarne Estate, Turloughmore, County Galway.

The Land Commission have reached agreement for the purchase of 108 acres of this 260-acre property. It is expected that the sale will be closed shortly.

54.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position regarding the town park, Mountbellew, County Galway.

The Land Commission have decided to seek an order, pursuant to the provisions of section 30(7) of the Land Act, 1950, revoking the trust scheme under which this area of 77 acres is held. The trustees have been advised of this decision.

Why was that decision taken?

The trustees were not looking after the land as they should.

Would the Minister agree that if the trustees do not look after it many local people might be interested in it? The obvious thing would be to discuss matters with the local people and find out if alternative trustees could be appointed.

This has something to do with industrial development. The trustees were not administering their trust properly.

Alternative trustees could be got.

Some of this land may be allocated to uneconomic holdings and prove more beneficial.
