Dr. Browne, Mr. M. O'Leary

andDr. O'Connell asked the Taoiseach what is the total number of cigarettes smoked in Ireland in the years 1950 to 1960 and for the 12 months ended on the most recent convenient date.

Official statistics relating to the number of cigarettes smoked in the State are not available but estimates of the total weights of tobacco contained in cigarettes smoked have been compiled and with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing these estimates for each of the years 1950 to 1960 and 1969.

Following is the statement:
