Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Education for Six County Children.

94.

asked the Minister for Education the provisions relating to young pupils over 11 years, displaced by the recent troubles in the Six County area, who wish to pursue educational courses in secondary or vocational schools, in the area of the country over which his Department has jurisdiction at this time.

Educational facilities in the different types of schools under my Department are available to children irrespective of where they were born. No special provision is necessary, therefore, to cater for young people displaced by the recent troubles in Northern Ireland.

A pupil who is not less than 12 years of age on the 1st January of a school year, who has completed his primary school course and who is following an approved course of study in a secondary or vocational school is eligible to be regarded as a recognised pupil in that school year.
