Vol. 244 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Garda Station.

35.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware of anxiety on the part of the people of Villierstown, County Waterford regarding the possible closing of the local garda station; and whether he will make a statement on the matter.

As I have indicated in replies to previous questions I am carrying out a review of the distribution of the strength of the force throughout the country. In the course of this review the question of closing the garda station at Villierstown has come under consideration but a final decision will not be taken pending completion of the investigation of the police requirements in the locality.

May I express the ardent desire that the Minister will consider the well-founded fears of the people there in regard to possible closure of the local garda station, having regard to their rather isolated position and the distance to the nearest other garda station?

We have received representations from the area and everything will be taken into consideration. No decision has been taken so far.
