Vol. 245 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary/West Waterford Unemployed.

4.

asked the Taoiseach the number of persons male and female unemployed i.e. in receipt of unemployment assistance and unemployment benefit in the following towns for the most recent date for which figures are available and on the same date in 1968 and 1969: Clonmel, Tipperary, Cashel, Carrick-on-Suir, Cahir, Killenaule, Cappoquin, Lismore and Tallow.

The number of persons in receipt of unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance is available only for local employment office areas. Separate figures are not available for Killenaule, Cappoquin and Tallow which have no local offices; Killenaule being included under the Clonmel local office and Cappoquin and Tallow under that of Lismore. With your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the number of persons, male and female, paid unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance at the local employment offices situated in the towns specified—including those listed at these offices for such payments at post offices —in the week ended 10th April, 1970, together with the figures for corresponding dates in 1968 and 1969.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if the information he is providing in the tabular statement contains the numbers of those in receipt of weekly redundancy payments, which of course is another form of unemployment?

What were asked for were the figures in respect of those in receipt of unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance.

Do they include the numbers in receipt of redundancy payments, as such?

They were not asked for in the question.

They can be asked for next week.
