Vol. 246 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Patrol Cars.

40.

asked the Minister for Justice the rate at which the number of official patrol cars operated by the Garda Síochána has increased since 1930; and the extent to which this is greater or less than the rate of increase in the number of cars owned by the general public.

1948 is the earliest year for which particulars of Garda vehicles are now available. Since that year, the number of official vehicles operated by the Garda Síochána has increased from 105 to 517, that is, by 392 per cent. In the same period the total number of vehicles on the roads has increased from 108,002 to 516,068, that is, by 378 per cent.
