Vol. 246 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - AnCO Waterford Centre.

14.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware that the AnCO Industrial Training Centre at Waterford has been declared black by a trade union (name supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the problem referred to by the Deputy. AnCO are in communication with both the trade union concerned and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions in the matter.

Can the Minister specify the cause of this dispute?

I should not like to try to pinpoint it at this stage. It is associated with training in the AnCO centre. It is rather fundamental as far as that is involved.

Are the activities of the AnCO centre causing trouble between various trade unions in the matter of training apprentices?

I did not say that at all. In this case, the person was not regarded as acceptable for membership on account of the training.

Why was he not accepted?

I do not wish to discuss the matter now. It is rather sub judice. It is being considered by the people competent to deal with it.
