Dáil Éireann debate -
Thursday, 30 Apr 1970

Vol. 246 No. 3

Committee on Finance. - Business of Dáil.

I wish to raise a matter of importance. I have been informed that the motion I sought to raise on the Adjournment has been disallowed. It refers to the banks dispute. I should like to know if there is any other procedure by which the House can discuss today the closure of the banks.

Is it the position, then, that if the country had been invaded at 12 o'clock today, the Dáil would have to go home at this time without being able to discuss it?

In regard to matters which it is felt could not be debated within half an hour, the position is that these matters cannot be taken.

On the assumption that the invasion of the country could not be debated in half an hour——

The Deputy is now making a hypothetical case. In so far as this question which the Deputy has raised has been ruled out of order and disallowed——

Thank you. I will take the matter up with the Committee on Procedure and Privileges.
