Vol. 247 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deserted Wives.

17.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if the new scheme for deserted wives will be subject to means test; whether such assistance as may be provided will be abated when the recipient becomes gainfully employed, and by what amount; and whether the allowance payable will be increased according to the number of dependent children.

As indicated in the Budget Statement, the proposed scheme of allowances for deserted wives will be on lines similar to the widows' non-contributory pension scheme. Details of the new scheme will be published when the Bill to implement it is circulated shortly.
