Vol. 247 No. 8

Written Answers. - Accommodation for Mentally Handicapped Children.

108.

Mr. Dunne

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the up-to-date position regarding the proposed improvement and extension of Corville House, Roscrea, County Tipperary, which is being used for the care of retarded children.

The initial phase of the scheme of adaptations and improvements at Corville House is now virtually completed. This consists of modifications to what was formerly a maternity unit to provide accommodation on a temporary basis for about 20 mentally handicapped children at present housed in a former nursery unit. Extensive adaptations and improvements to the main buildings and the nursery unit, which will be carried out under the second phase of the scheme, necessitate using the converted maternity unit temporarily in this way but it will ultimately serve as staff accommodation.

Detailed planning of the second phase of the scheme is now almost completed and it is expected that tenders will be sought for this work within the next few weeks.
