Vol. 247 No. 8

Written Answers. - Workers' Holidays.

109.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of the present financial year and the two previous financial years the total number of paid holidays applicable to forestry workers and other workers employed under his Department together with the principal conditions applicable to the granting of holidays with pay.

The paid holidays applicable to forestry workers, and other analogous workers employed in my Department, are computed in accordance with each individual worker's employment year and other provisions of the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1961, and not on a financial year basis. In the circumstances it is not possible to give the deputy figures in terms of financial years. Each worker who satisfies the requirements of the Act qualifies for the statutory fortnight's holidays and all the public holidays or Church holydays in lieu. In addition forestry workers are eligible for extrastatutory holidays amounting to three for 1968, four for 1969 and five for 1970 and subsequent years. Qualifying requirements for these are the same as for statutory public holidays or substituted days.
