asked the Minister for Education if he will inform the House how the money allocated to him for the promotion of sport has been allocated; and the bodies which have received or are due to receive this money.

One grant has been allocated in the current Financial Year, viz. £3,000 to Comhairle Liathróid Láimhe na hÉireann. |
I could not hear the answer to my question.
Question No. 27.
27.
asked the Minister for Education the amount of money allocated to the Parliamentary Secretary for the purpose of assisting sport in this country for 1969-70 and for 1970-71.
The amount allocated to national youth and sporting organisations during 1969-70 was £107,500. The amount provided for under this heading for 1970-71 is £100,000.
Does the Parliamentary Secretary intend to ask the Minister for Finance, or whoever gave him the money, for more money? Will the Parliamentary Secretary repeat the reply I failed to hear because of the noise over there on those benches?
28.
asked the Minister for Education if any grant is made available to the Irish handball association for the holding of the world handball championships this year.
A grant of £5,000 was made to Comhairle Liathróid Láimhe na hÉireann from the 1969-70 allocation.
A further grant of £3,000 has since been made from the 1970-71 allocation, making a total sum of £8,000 available to an Chomhairle.
The Parliamentary Secretary will be aware that there are some of us in this House with a certain degree of intelligence. The Parliamentary Secretary said earlier on Question No. 22——
We cannot go back to Question No. 22.
——that he would——
Would the Deputy please resume his seat?
A Cheann Comhairle——
Will the Deputy please resume his seat when the Chair is standing? We cannot go back to Question No. 22. We are now dealing with Question No. 28.
(Cavan): On a point of order, when Deputy Dr. Byrne was dealing with Question No. 22 he was specifically invited by the Parliamentary Secretary to await this question on which he would be given full information. In those circumstances I respectfully suggest that he is quite in order.
Question No. 22 related to building the handball alley in University College, Dublin, and in a supplementary the Deputy sought information about my attitude to handball in general. I am prepared to tell the Deputy, arising out of this question if he wishes, although he has not specifically so asked, that the grant of £5,000 made available last year did include provision for the building of a new handball alley for the world handball championship in Croke Park and that these sums, taken in the light of the total sum available to my Department for the provision of sport facilities, £8,000, are a fair indication of the interest which my Department have in the promotion of this particular sport.
Let me put a further and a final supplementary question. The Parliamentary Secretary is well aware that I did not ask about handball in general in my supplementary question but about the provision of a handball alley in University College, Dublin, and he has not answered that —whether he is prepared to provide a handball alley there. Secondly, he did not answer my supplementary question to Question No. 27. He sat down.
We cannot spend all the time discussing the Deputy's questions. There are 123 questions on the Order Paper.
They will come up again next week.
