Vol. 248 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Effects of Cement Strike.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated number of completed new house units which would have been eligible for State grants but which will be lost in the present financial year because of the cement strike.

It is not possible at this stage at any rate to give the estimate requested by the Deputy.

Is the Minister satisfied that there is sufficient cement available now for the building of local authority and private houses? If this is not the case would the Minister, in consultation with the Minister for Industry and Commerce, make regulations to the effect that any cement available would be devoted to the building of local authority houses?

I would like to inform the Deputy that we are taking special measures to ensure that the housing construction programme gets back into top gear as soon as possible.

The cement will not fill up the cracks in the Fianna Fáil Party.

Is the Minister satisfied there is sufficient cement available for local authority and private houses?

That is a separate question.
