Vol. 248 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Incidence of Dermatitis.

6.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state whether there is an increased incidence of dermatitis with a new washing powder (name supplied); whether this preparation contains enzymes; and whether there are any reported incidents of increased dermatitis or increased cancer of the hands following usage of washing powders which contain enzymes.

I have made inquiries and I am informed that there is no evidence of an increased incidence of dermatitis attributable to the use of this new washing powder. It contains enzymes.

All the evidence available to me— and it is extensive—indicates that the use of washing powders containing enzymes has not caused an increase in dermatitis of the hands. I would like to make it quite clear also that I am advised that no evidence has been adduced associating cancer of the hands with the use of washing powders.
