Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Indirect Taxation.

40.

asked the Minister for Finance the percentage indirect taxation levied on (a) bread, (b) butter (c) margarine, (d) meat, (e) fish and (f) cheese in the Republic of (i) France and (ii) Ireland.

I understand that the added-value tax in France is chargeable on the commodities mentioned at the rate of 7.5 per cent on the price exclusive of tax. The turnover tax in Ireland is chargeable on the commodities at the rate of 5 per cent on the price inclusive of tax, which is equivalent to approximately 5¼ per cent on the tax-exclusive price.
