Vol. 249 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Meals.

60.

asked the Minister for Justice what arrangements, if any, were made to provide meals for the gardaí who were on duty in the Limerick region on the occasion of President Nixon's visit.

The gardaí on duty in Limerick city were supplied with two light meals. Those at Shannon Airport were supplied by the airport restaurant with two meals at special rates. At Kilfrush adequate time off was allowed and, where necessary, transport was provided to enable members who had not brought refreshments with them to obtain meals locally.

In addition, the members were, of course, entitled to normal subsistence allowances for absences away from their permanent stations. These range from 7s 3d for an absence of five hours to 50s for an absence of 24 hours.
