Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Housing Programme.

116.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make more money available to the Donegal County Council to finance their housing programme; if he is aware of the serious housing problem in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An initial capital allocation of £250,000 was notified to Donegal County Council last July to meet their local authority housing commitments at that time. It was indicated then that additional allocations would be made from time to time according as tenders were sanctioned for new works. Any application that the council may make for additional allocation on this basis will be considered in the normal way. I understand that their expenditure to date is of the order of £86,000 only.

I am aware of the need for houses in the county, and of the substantial progress which is being made by the council in meeting this need. At 30th September last the council had 187 houses in progress, 389 at tender, 156 in planning and they had acquired or were in progress of acquiring sites for a further 648 houses.
