Vol. 249 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donnaghmede (Dublin) Houses.

117.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the purchase houses at Donnaghmede, Dublin will be made available to the successful applicants; and if, in view of the grave concern caused by the delay, he will make a statement on the matter.

The allocation of these houses to individuals is a matter for the corporation. I understand, however, that the first 16 houses will become available to successful applicants next month and the balance later according as they are handed over by the contractor.

I am not aware of any delay — the cement strike slowed down the building of these houses considerably.

Is the Minister aware that some of these houses have been completed for 12 months and people have paid their deposits for keys? Could he give any reasonable explanation as to why the houses have not been made available as yet, and why only 16 are becoming available shortly?

I am not aware the houses are completed for the last 12 months.

Is the Minister aware that many of the houses have been completed for lengthy periods and could he give any reasonable explanation as to why they have not been allocated? They have been allocated to individuals but why are the individuals not allowed to move into them.

The question asked when the houses were made available to the applicants, and I think I have answered that fairly fully. I am not aware when the houses were actually completed, but I doubt very much the veracity of the Deputy's statement that the houses are completed for 12 months and lying idle. I doubt if Dublin Corporation or anybody else would allow that situation to exist for very long.

That is why the question is down.

I have answered that question, and if the Deputy puts down another question next week I will answer that.
