Vol. 249 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Widow's Pensions.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if a widow can qualify for an ex gratia pension and the widow's pension; and if a widow who is a retired teacher can draw an ex gratia pension and also her own retired teacher's pension.

The reply to the first part of the question is that the award, or continuance, of a widow's pension under the Social Welfare Acts to a widow who is in receipt of an ex gratia pension as a widow of a teacher is a matter for the Minister for Social Welfare.

In regard to the second part of the question, a teacher who is the widow of a teacher, and who qualifies for both an ex gratia widow's pension and a pension as a teacher, may receive both pensions.
