Vol. 249 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Industry.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that an individual (name supplied) who is prepared to establish an industry in Ballinlough, County Roscommon may be prevented from doing so because of the cost of installing electricity at the proposed site; and if he is prepared to give a grant towards the cost of the installation of electricity.

I am aware that the Industrial Development Authority decided that because of the small amount of actual manufacture involved this industry did not qualify for grants under the industrial grants legislation. I understand, however, that the question of a grant towards the cost of the electricity installation is now under consideration by the central development committee.

Is the Minister aware that the ESB estimated it would cost approximately £1,000 to install electricity here? Should no grant be forthcoming it would mean that there would be no industry there.

The question of the demand from the ESB does not, of course, come under my aegis as such.

But it is tied up directly with it.

Yes, but the reply to the question states that the question of a grant is now under consideration.
