Vol. 249 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Garda Station.

46.

asked the Minister for Justice when the Ballyfermot Garda station, Dublin, will be completed; and the total Garda strength of this station.

It is expected that the new Garda station at Ballyfermot will be completed by March, 1971.

The Garda requirements of the Ballyfermot area will be fully examined by the research and planning unit of the Garda Síochána with a view to determining the strength requirements of the new station.

Does the Minister have any idea how many gardaí will be accommodated here?

It will be a matter for the commissioner, when the station is finished, to allocate the number there. I should imagine it would not be less than the existing number in Chapelizod, about 72. It may well be more than that.

The Minister will appreciate that 72 gardaí are insufficient to deal with such a big area?

The number was increased to 72 some time ago. The usual policy is to increase these numbers a bit further.
