Vol. 249 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the purchase houses of Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation at Ballybrack, County Dublin, are being occupied on foot of a caretaker agreement; the length of time these purchasers will have to wait before commencing repayments from their loans; and if he will advise local authorities in general in detail about such practices.

The management and allocation of purchase houses are matters for the local authority concerned and I am not aware of their detailed arrangements in individual cases. However, I understand that Dún Laoghaire Corporation have permitted persons to whom purchase houses have been allocated at Ballybrack to occupy the houses under caretakers agreements, pending the finalisation of the sale of the houses, in return for payment by the purchasers of amounts necessary to cover loan and other charges which have to be met by the corporation on the houses. This facility has been arranged between the corporation and the purchasers and I have no function in the matter.

The length of time that will elapse before the purchasers will commence loan repayments will depend on the date on which individual sales are closed. I do not see the need at present to advise local authorities generally in this matter.
