asked the Taoiseach if he will state separately the population of Counties Donegal and Leitrim in 1956 and 1966; and the current estimated population of both counties.

In 1956 the population of County Donegal was 122,059 and that of County Leitrim was 37,056. The corresponding figures at the 1966 census were 108,549 and 30,572 respectively. Population estimates for counties are not prepared for the years between censuses.

asked the Taoiseach the current estimated total number of small holdings in Counties Donegal and Leitrim under ten acres.

The estimated number of holdings of one-quarter and not exceeding ten statute acres was 8,454 in County Donegal and 1,177 in County Leitrim in June, 1965, the latest date for which the information is available. These totals include 2,469 holdings in County Donegal and 443 holdings in County Leitrim of one acre or less.
