Vol. 249 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Card Application.

5.

asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in supplying a medical card to a family of three, husband, wife and child (name supplied).

I understand from the Dublin Health Authority, who are responsible for dealing with individual cases in the Dublin area, that an application for a medical card was received from the family in question on 10th September and that a card was issued on 6th November.

The reasons for the eight-week interval were, first, an inquiry officer was unable to contact the applicant, as he did not take up residence at the address on his application form until 10th October, that is, one month after he applied for a card, and, secondly, relevant information requested by the health authority was not subsequently submitted, on the applicant's behalf, until 6th November. The medical card was then issued immediately.
