Vol. 250 No. 4

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Drug Treatment Centre.

13.

asked the Minister for Health when the new drug treatment centre at Dundrum, Dublin, will be opened; and if he will give details of the facilities and staffing in this institution.

The new drug treatment centre at the Central Mental Hospital has not yet commenced operations. Adaptation of the governor's house to permit of its use as a treatment centre is practically complete and the Dublin Health Authority, which will operate the centre, are making the necessary staffing arrangements.

Can the Minister say how many is it intended to keep in this centre? How many is it proposed to keep in the centre and will they be there forcibly or voluntarily?

It is intended to build a 24 bed unit for people who are regarded as needing to be detained for drug treatment and also for voluntary treatment as well.
