asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give the priority list for swimming pools in the country giving (a) the estimated cost and (b) the grant which will be available for each pool.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swimming Pools.
Mr. Tally
I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a statement of swimming pool proposals indicating the stage they have now reached and the estimated cost, where available.
As regards (b) the scheme of financial assistance from my Department takes the form of a subsidy, normally 50 per cent, towards the annual loan charges incurred by local authorities in repaying loans raised by them for the purpose of financing the cost of their pools or making contributions to local voluntary organisations providing pools.
Following is the statement:

*Swimming pool proposals in respect of which it has been indicated to sanitary authorities that the raising of loans, normally from a source other than the Local Loans Fund, on acceptable terms to finance the work would be sanctioned in 1970-71 subject to the adequacy of standards in each case.
†Reasonably up-to-date estimate of cost not available in Department of Local Government.
I know this is not specifically asked for in the question but can the Minister tell me if there will be any difficulty with regard to applications for subsidies for the pools within the next 12 months?
No.
The Minister says there is no question of difficulty arising there?
No. There will be no difficulty about paying subsidies for pools which I have already sanctioned.
That was not the question. The Minister has given me a list of pools giving the priority. The Minister knows the ones that are likely to be completed within 12 months time. In those cases are the people concerned likely to get their subsidy when they ask for it without any difficulty?
Certain pool applications have been sanctioned by me and the subsidy will be paid in those cases. The matter of other pools is a completely separate question.
I take it that the pool for Rathmines is at the head of the list considering that the site was bought 50 years ago?
The Deputy has not been very energetic on it if it has been there for 50 years.
