Vol. 250 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Land Costs.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the Government's stated desire to control prices and incomes, he will introduce legislation to control the price of building land.

Consideration is being given to the possibility of introducing legislation to effect the control of land prices for housing developments. However, there are considerable administrative, financial and legal problems involved and these are being studied at present by the Departments concerned.

I might add that in order to increase the supply of serviced land for housing local authorities have been urged to acquire land in advance of immediate needs and provide services on it. From the pool of land so acquired local authorities have made available at reasonable costs sites for private house building and I would like to see a further extension of this activity.

The remaining Questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
