Vol. 250 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Handicapped Children.

11.

asked the Minister for Health if he is prepared to sanction the purchase of a minibus over and above the Louth County Council estimate for the transport of severely handicapped children to St. Mary's, Drumcar, on foot of a motion passed by Louth County Council to this effect.

The question of the provision of a minibus is one for consideration in the first instance by the council. I am prepared to give full consideration to a proposal of the nature indicated, if and when it is received.

Unmarried Parents.

12.

asked the Minister for Health if he proposes to take any action on the suggestions put forward at the recent conference in Kilkenny on the problems of unmarried parents.

The conference at Kilkenny on the problems of the unmarried parent was organised by the Kilkenny Social Services Centre. The report of the conference is not yet available.

I understand that the conference set up a working group representative of each health board area to consider the services at present available in each area and to report to a meeting to be held early in the new year.

My Department will give sympathetic consideration to any relevant proposals submitted as a result of the conference.
