Vol. 251 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amalgamation of Creameries.

126.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, as a result of the amalgamation of creameries, there will be redundancy amongst workers; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to rectify the matter.

In general, amalgamation of creameries resulting from reorganisation of the creamery industry should not give rise to any significant redundancy amongst employees. In the comparatively few cases where redundancy might arise I understand those responsible for the workers' interests will be concerned with settling with the co-operative societies concerned the best possible compensation provision in the amalgamation arrangements.

In any cases involving the transfer of Dairy Disposal Company interests to co-operative ownership, it is a condition of any such transfer that the position of the employees will be adequately safeguarded.
