Vol. 251 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Harbour Water Tests.

150.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any tests were made of water samples in Dublin Harbour from December, 1968 to October, 1969 to determine the concentrations of chemicals or other organic compounds present; and what the results were.

The only such tests recently carried out of which I am aware were tests on water at recognised bathing places around Dublin Bay in relation to possible health hazards to bathers. The results are not available in my Department.

The Deputy will no doubt be aware that Dublin Corporation are co-operating with the Electricity Supply Board and the Dublin Port and Docks Board in a survey, to be undertaken shortly, which will establish the level of pollution in the Bay. Apart from this, the question of regular and systematic monitoring of the Bay is being considered.
