asked the Minister for Justice the total amount collected from on-the-spot fines (a) since they came into operation and (b) during 1970.

In reply to a question on 10th February, 1970, I informed the Deputy that the total amount collected under the fine-on-the-spot scheme up to 31st December, 1969, was £435,038.

Owing to the bank closure final figures for 1970 are not yet available in my Department, but the total actually remitted to the Department during that year was £108,246.

asked the Minister for Justice the amount collected in on-the-spot fines in Limerick city during the last six months.

The total amount remitted to my Department in respect of fines on-the-spot in Limerick city for the six month period—August, 1970 to January, 1971, inclusive, was £1,715.

Owing to the bank closure the final figures for this period are not yet available in my Department.
