Vol. 251 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposals for Belmullet Town.

138.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are proposals before his Department, submitted by Mayo County Council, for the provision of a courthouse, fire station, library and local engineers' office in Belmullet town, and, if so, what the present position is regarding such proposals.

No such proposal is before my Department.

139.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Local Government if any progress has been made by Mayo County Council during the past three months in connection with proposals for the provision of a drawbridge over the canal at Belmullet, County Mayo.

Since my reply to the Deputy's question of 19th November last, Mayo County Council have requested sanction to the appointment of a consultant to design a drawbridge and a decision on that request will issue shortly. I have also received a request to meet a deputation from the county council in relation to the provision and financing of the drawbridge and I am informing the council that I am prepared to meet the deputation on a date to be arranged.
