Vol. 251 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Psychiatric Care and Attention.

11.

asked the Minister for Health the names of the persons designated by him to investigate the desirability of transferring persons now in the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, Dublin, to a district mental hospital for remedial psychiatric care and attention.

As I indicated to the Deputy on 27th January, the re-examination of certain patients will be carried out by inspectors of my Department in consultation with the medical staff of the hospital.

12.

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of increased costs and prices since the sum was agreed upon, he will now increase the permitted £5 payable by local authorities to landladies who take into residence persons who for social reasons cannot go home and who should not be retained in Irish mental hospitals.

There is no prescribed weekly rate for boarding out psychiatric patients. The amount payable in any particular case is a matter for examination in the first instance by the health authority. I am prepared to consider any reasonable proposals which are submitted to me.
