Vol. 251 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Clerical Assistants.

46.

asked the Minister for Justice what progress has been made in the recruitment of female staff to perform secretarial duties which would release members of the Garda Síochána for active crime prevention duties; and if he will state the salary, grades and promotional prospects attendant upon such posts.

Forty-three clerical assistants have already been appointed to various centres and further assignments are currently being made from the most recent open competition. The salary of a clerical assistant is £13.30 by annual increments to £20.58, and the promotion prospects of clerical assistants assigned to Garda centres are identical with those of clerical assistants in the Civil Service generally.
