Vol. 251 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Taxi Service.

64.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the current inadequacy of the public taxi service in Cork city; if he will reduce the current high cost of £11 for a taxi driver's licence plus medical examination fees; and if he will amend the regulation which provides that licences can only be obtained on the first day of each quarter of the year thus impeding normal applications.

I am not aware that the taxi service in Cork city is at present inadequate. I do not at this stage propose to make any amendment to the existing regulations.

I would remind the Deputy that when the amendments were made last year I undertook to review the operation of the regulations within two years when we can measure their effect on the taxi and hackney business.
