asked the Minister for Education how many classes in Dublin primary schools, excluding special classes for slow learners and backward children within primary schools, and excluding all special schools for blind, deaf, dumb, physically handicapped, mentally handicapped autistic and emotionally disturbed children and secondary tops, exceed the national average pupil-teacher ratio of 1/39 when principals and other non-teaching members of the staff are not taken into consideration; and what percentage of all classes in this category in Dublin these above average classes represent.

There were 1,847 classes in the category referred to by the Deputy with more than 39 pupils on rolls in Dublin city national schools on 1st February, 1970, representing 74 per cent of all classes in this category in Dublin city.

asked the Minister for Education how many classes in Dublin primary schools, excluding special classes within these schools and all special schools for blind, deaf, dumb, physically handicapped, mentally handicapped, autistic and emotionally disturbed and secondary tops, exceed the maximum pupil/teacher ratio of 1/50 which has been laid down by his Department; and what percentage of all classes in this category in Dublin these above maximum size classes represent.

There were 158 classes in the category referred to by the Deputy with more than 50 pupils on rolls in Dublin city national schools on 1st February, 1970, representing 6.3 per cent of all classes in this category in Dublin city.
