Vol. 252 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cavan Regional Water Scheme.

52.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Cavan is one of the six counties in the Republic which is still without any regional water scheme; the reason for the delay in providing such facilities in the county; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In order to apply the capital allocated in the Budget for sanitary services to maximum advantage nationally, investment in these services is confined to water and sewerage works of evident priority and, in general, finance is not now provided for regional water supply schemes. Where, however, it is established that any section of a regional scheme is urgent, consideration is given to its approval. On that basis, revised preliminary proposals for stage 1 of the Cavan regional scheme were approved on the 8th May, 1969, and contract documents are awaited.
