NOTES:
(1) The Scheme came into operation on 27th January, 1967, with the making of regulations entitled "Life Annuity (Sale of Land to Land Commission) Regulations, 1967".
(2) In all, some 404 firm applications for participation in the Scheme have been received, and of these, 396 have been investigated. Some 187 applications had to be eliminated at an early stage—mainly because the lands offered were not considered suitable or required for Land Commission purposes. A further 75 were withdrawn—the owners preferring to offer their lands to the Land Commission in the ordinary way for cash or land bonds. In all 125 applications developed into potential life annuity cases and advanced to the stage where price negotiations were authorised. Price agreement has been reached with 37 land-owners and, as shown in the table, life annuities have actually been set up in 31 cases.
