Vol. 252 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Undertakings.

35.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of new industrial undertakings which commenced production during the past six months; and their total employment potential.

During 1970, 108 firms decided to establish new factories, or extend existing projects, in Ireland. These new industries will involve a total investment in fixed assets of £72 million and are estimated to provide some 10,700 new jobs when at full production.

I am aware of 17 new industrial undertakings which actually commenced production during the past six months. The estimated employment potential of these projects when at full production is some 1,300 persons, about 750 of whom would be male.
