Vol. 252 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord Fáilte Expenditure.

15.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state, in expansion of his reply of 3 February, 1971, the purposes for which the Bord Fáilte expenditure figures of (a) £19,721, (b) £14,194 and (c) £17,102 were expended; if land was acquired and, if so, the area in each case; and if it is proposed to continue grants this year towards the implementation of development works already drawn up for each of the schemes for which the moneys were allocated.

The figures at (a) and (b) of the Deputy's question relate to expenditure by Bord Fáilte on minor resort works in Counties Meath and Dublin, respectively, while the figure at (c) relates to expenditure on the major resort development scheme at Skerries. Bord Fáilte have furnished a list of the items on which these expenditures were incurred and, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate it in the Official Report.

The application of moneys voted for resort development is a matter for Bord Fáilte. The board are at present carrying out a review of their work programme for resort development and, until this review is completed, they will not be in a position to say what grants will be available for this purpose in 1971-72.

The list is as follows—

(A) £19,721 spent in County Meath as follows:

1. Loughcrew—access road.

2. Fourknocks—machine maintenance cost.

3. Newgrange—car park.

4. Donaghmore—access and car park.

5. Laytown:

(i) ramp to beach;

(ii) acquisition of land at Corballis (Note (i));

(iii) amenity scheme.

6. Kells—drawings for murals.

7. Boyne Valley Walk (An Taisce Survey).

8. Millmount Fort restoration.

9. Signposting.

10. Tidy Towns.

NOTE (i)—32 acres were acquired to provide amenity scheme, car parking etc. in collaboration with Meath County Council.

(B) £14,194 spent in County Dublin as follows:

1. Hellfire Club improvements.

2. Swords Clock Tower improvements.

3. St. Stephen's Church (Mount Street) improvements.

4. Drimnagh Castle restoration.

5. Taylor's Hall restoration.

6. Signposting.

7. Tidy Towns.

(C) £17,102 spent as follows on development scheme at Skerries:

1. Acquisition of site of former rocket shed belonging to the Coast Life Saving Service for a new yacht clubhouse (Note (ii)).

2. Acquisition of fee simple interest.

3. Acquisition of land for golf course (Note (iii)).

4. Consultant's fees and expenses.

NOTE (ii)—Area of the rocket shed site was less than 25 perches.

NOTE (iii)—37 acres were acquired to extend the golf course from 9 to 18 holes.

Will the Minister ensure that he does not mistake portion of County Meath for County Louth and portion of Dublin city for Dublin county as happened in the last list I got from him? The people who compile this list should know where county boundaries lie

A great many counties benefit as a result of development in Laytown and Bettystown.

They are involved in coming there but there is not very much spending by Bord Fáilte there. The spending is done on Salthill. That is where the money is going.
