Vol. 252 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Houses.

20.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of County Kildare the number of dwellinghouses in the possession of the Land Commission which are suitable for human habitation; if the Land Commission will consider renting them; and, if not, if they will consider selling them to the Kildare County Council.

I am assuming that the question refers to existing dwellinghouses on lands taken over by the Land Commission and not to new dwelling-houses erected by them.

The Land Commission have eight of these old houses in County Kildare and two of these are still occupied by the former owners. Only one of the rest could be said to be in good condition and this is required for land settlement purposes. The other five are in poor condition and it is unlikely that they would be suitable for county council purposes but the Land Commission would give sympathetic consideration to an application from the council to purchase all or any of them.
