Vol. 252 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Applications.

76.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that a blind man (name supplied) who applied in July, 1969, is still without a telephone service; the reason for this delay; and whether further delay is expected.

The person named applied for a telephone in August, 1970. It is expected that terms will be quoted to him next month and the telephone will be installed within about a fortnight of the agreement being signed and the necessary advance payments made. The reason for the delay in providing service was pressure of other urgent work.

77.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why a firm (name supplied) in New Ross, County Wexford, have not yet been supplied with the necessary telephone lines and equipment in order that they may develop their enterprise which employs 50 workers at present.

Telephone service was provided for the firm in question in September, 1970, within 12 days of receipt of the order and additional facilities were provided in December, 1970, and February, 1971.

Orders which have not yet been met comprise installation of a telephone in the private residence of the firm's personnel manager, an additional exchange line and removal to new premises of the line which was provided in September, 1970. Terms were quoted a week ago for the telephone in the private residence of the personnel manager and it will be installed as quickly as possible. The additional exchange line which was ordered in February, 1971, is being installed this week. The removal was held up owing to the fact that, despite reminders, the firm took six weeks to complete the necessary agreement from which was only returned to the local post office last Friday. Arrangements have now been made to carry out the removal as quickly as possible.
