Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Hardship Allowance.

20.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why the special hardship allowance under the British Industrial Injuries Acts is excluded from the reciprocal agreement between the United Kingdom and Ireland for industrial injuries; and if he will indicate its prospects for inclusion.

The reciprocal agreement between this country and the United Kingdom in relation to occupational injuries insurance includes provision for payment here of benefits under the British Industrial Injuries Acts corresponding to benefits under the Social Welfare (Occupational Injuries) Act, 1966. As there is no benefit in the Irish scheme similar to the special hardship allowance under the British legislation its inclusion in a reciprocal agreement between the two countries was not possible.
