Vol. 253 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motoring Fines.

34.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1971, the amount of money collected in fines for motoring offences.

Figures for the year ended 31st March, 1971, are not available in my Department. The amount collected in fines imposed by the courts under the Road Traffic Acts, 1961 and 1968, and the Roads Act, 1920, during the calendar year ended 31st December, 1970, was £223,360. In addition, a sum of £108,246 was remitted to my Department during the year 1970 in respect of payments made under the "fines on the spot" scheme.

How are these remitted?

By cheque, I presume.
