Vol. 253 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Pedestrian Crossings.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps to have a sign entitled pedestrian crossing ahead provided on the approaches to all crossings in the built-up areas of Dublin as already provided in some locations.

The provision of traffic signs is a matter for the road authority concerned and I understand that signs of the type mentioned by the Deputy have been provided by some of these authorities.

Regulations under the Road Traffic Acts do not prescribe a sign to give advance warning of a pedestrian crossing and consequently there is a lack of uniformity in such signs. A review of the regulations is at present proceeding and I hope to be in a position to prescribe a standard sign which could be used by road authorities generally.
