Vol. 254 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour.

28.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the fact that the inner Coal Harbour at Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, is being progressively silted up thus causing a reduction in its usage capacity, he will arrange to have an extensive dredging operation carried out there.

The Office of Public Works is not aware that dredging is necessary at present at the inner Coal Harbour, Dún Laoghaire.

If the Office of Public Works examine this whole matter they will find that it is grossly and seriously silted and that it badly needs to be dredged. There are considerable complaints amongst people in this area about the matter. Would the Minister draw attention to them and have the question re-examined by the Office of Public Works?

My information is that the inner Coal Harbour is used only for the mooring of yachts and that no request has been received for any dredging. The engineer is not aware of any necessity for such dredging. I will certainly pass on the Deputy's comments.

Has any complaint come from the owners of large yachts in Dún Laoghaire about this matter?

As I have indicated, no complaints have been received.
