asked the Minister for Health if he will state in respect of the year 1970-71 the number of recipients of disabled persons (maintenance) allowance.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 7 and 8 together.

At the 31st March, 1971, the number of persons in receipt of allowances under the Disabled Persons (Maintenance Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 1970, was 23,565.

The total amount of such allowances was £3,769,653 in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1971.
