Vol. 254 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Nursing Service.

81.

asked the Minister for Defence why increased salaries for senior nursing grades in the Army nursing service have not yet been paid, in view of the fact that the revised scales which were approved by the Department of Health for local authority hospitals were notified to his Department on 6th March last.

Revised scales of pay, effective from the 1st September, 1969, for senior nursing grades in the Army nursing service have been approved and payment of the arrears will be made as soon as possible.

Could the Minister say why it takes so much longer to pay the Army nurses than to pay nurses in other hospitals? This has happened on more than one occasion.

Apparently the Department of Health have to be consulted in the first instance and subsequently the Department of Finance and this unfortunately caused some delay.

This happens every time there is an increase.

They got in retrospective to 1st September, 1969, nearly two years. They will have a great time with the two years' pay.
