Vol. 254 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic Lights.

102.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the need for traffic lights at the junctions of Glengara Park and Eden Road and of Hudson Road and Albert Road, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin; and when they will be provided.

The provision of traffic light signals is a matter for the road authority acting at the request or with the consent of the Garda commissioner. My Department are concerned only where Road Fund moneys are sought to meet the cost of such installation. Approval was given by me on 18th August, 1970, to Dún Laoghaire Corporation to charge to their Road Fund allocation the cost of installing traffic light signals at the junction of Glenageary Road Lower/Eden Road/ Corrig Road and at the junction of Hudson Road/ Adelaide Road. It is a matter for the corporation to proceed with the installation of the lights. There are no proposals before my Department in connection with the provision of traffic lights at the junction of Hudson Road/Albert Road.

103.

asked the Minister for Local Government when traffic lights are likely to be installed at O'Connell Bridge, Dublin.

Approval in principle to the installation of a linked traffic light system covering O'Connell Bridge and O'Connell Street was conveyed to Dublin Corporation. It is a matter for the corporation to proceed with the planning and provision of the installation. I have, however, asked for an up-to-date report on the position.
