Vol. 254 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Heating Health Hazards.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if he will set up a commission to investigate the health hazards associated with living in centrally heated high rise dwellings.

I have no evidence which would support a contention that there are health hazards particularly associated with centrally heated high rise buildings. I do not therefore consider it necessary to set up a commission.

Can the Minister say what investigation he made into positive evidence of illness?

I have already informed the Deputy that I have received information from the Dublin Chief Medical Officer and through the Assistant Chief Medical Officer.

Is the Minister stating that not only is there no health hazard associated with continuous central heating in a flat. but also that there is no added emotional stress caused by living in high rise buildings?

I have no evidence about this at all.

Is the Minister aware of the serious complaints about the central heating system here and of the effects it is having at times on Deputies?

I am not so aware.

The Minister should ask members of his own party.

The Deputy is a living example.
